Charles Rash worked for the railroad in Quincy, Illinois, in the middle to late 1880s and subsequently moved to Chicago, the big city. Initially, he lived on the South Side, probably in proximity to St. Georges Church, located at 39th and Wentworth. Margaret Kestel, also lived in Chicago managing a boarding house. Could this be how the two initially met? However they did, they are the first of many marriages which came to be afterwards. Seeing the list, one might consider that Charles and Maggie had some matchmaking skills. After all, 200 miles between the two cities is quite a distance.

Engine #574 built in 1882, scrapped in 1913. Maybe this is one of the engines which made the connection possible between the two counties. |
